Free Background Remover — No Upload, No Watermark

Need to remove the background from an image quickly and for free? Our browser-based background remover processes your photo entirely on your device using the HTML5 Canvas API — your files are never uploaded to any server, making this one of the most private online background removal tools available. Simply drop in a JPG, PNG, or WebP, set your Tolerance and Feather levels, and download a crisp transparent PNG in seconds.

This tool works by detecting the background color starting from the corners and edges of your image — a technique called flood-fill. It then expands outward to mark all connected background pixels as transparent, with optional edge feathering to prevent harsh jagged cutouts. This approach is ideal for product photography on white backgrounds, profile headshots, logos, screenshots, and any image where the background is a distinct, relatively uniform color. No account, no sign-up, and no watermarks — just clean, transparent output ready for compositing, printing, or sharing.

How to Remove a Background from an Image

  1. 1

    Upload your image

Drag and drop your photo into the upload area, or click "browse" to select a JPG, PNG, WebP, or GIF from your device (up to 15 MB).

  2. 2

    Set the Tolerance

The Tolerance slider (default 30) controls how broadly the tool expands from the background seed color. A low value removes only pixels very close to the corner color; a higher value catches more background shades. For most white-background product photos, 25–40 works well.

  3. 3

    Set Edge Feathering

Feathering blends the boundary between the subject and the transparent area over a few pixels. A value of 1–2 px gives natural-looking edges without excessive blurring. Use 0 if you need a perfectly sharp cutout.

  4. 4

    Click "Remove Background"

The tool processes the image in your browser — no internet connection needed after the page loads. Processing typically takes 1–4 seconds depending on image size.

  5. 5

    Preview and download

Toggle between the original and the result view. The checkerboard pattern confirms transparency. If you see remnants or over-removal, click "Adjust & Retry" to tweak the sliders without re-uploading.

Tips for Best Results

  • 1

Use images with a uniform background color

The cleaner and more uniform the background (e.g. a studio white or solid blue), the more accurately the tool can isolate the subject. Gradient or textured backgrounds may require multiple attempts at different tolerance levels.

  • 2

Start with Tolerance 25–35 and adjust

For most product and headshot photos, a tolerance between 25 and 40 gives clean results. Move it up in steps of 5 if remnant background remains, or down if the subject is being clipped.

  • 3

Keep Feather at 1–2 for most uses

A feather of 1–2 px smooths pixel-level noise without blurring important edge detail. Use 0 only if you need a mathematically sharp cutout (e.g. for vector tracing); use 3–5 for soft portrait edges.

  • 4

For complex backgrounds, pre-crop the image

If only part of your image has a simple background, crop to that area in another tool, remove the background here, then re-composite. This gives the flood fill a better seed region.

  • 5

Download as PNG — not JPG

Always save the result as a PNG. JPG does not support transparency and will fill the transparent areas with a white or black background, destroying the cutout.
